If you read my earlier story—Birth Of A Song—about writing the song Subway Train, you may recall that it was basically a demo consisting of acoustic guitar, vocals, and melodica. My bandmate Mark Johnston did the vocals, and I played guitar and melodica.
I released Subway Train as a demo because I had just joined DistroKid and wanted to start releasing my music on streaming services.
I planned to finish the song eventually, and I finally have. I kept the original demo tracks and added drums, bass, and piano. It now feels like a finished song to me.
Subway Train is available on the major streaming services (more will follow), iTunes, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
Here is the finished song:
Subway Train
Lyrically, it is one of my favorites because of the story it tells. Here are the lyrics:
Subway Train
I met a girl on a subway train
I was just trying to avoid the rain
But instead, my whole life changed
When I met a girl on a subway train
Don’t go thinking I’m clever
I wasn’t witty at all
I simply gave her my seat
Then I started to fall
She smiled at me on a subway train
I smiled back and asked her her name
What happened next is hard to explain
When I met a girl on a subway train
I waited for her stop
But she was doing the same
And though she likes to deny it
Her intentions were plain
Interlude
Then the last stop came
And we both got out
She looked at me and laughed
Then I had no doubt
I met a girl on a subway train
I was just trying to avoid the rain
But instead, my whole life changed
When I met a girl on a subway train
Now we have three kids
And a mortgage too
And though our lives have changed
Our love stays true
I met a girl on a subway train
I was just trying to avoid the rain
But instead, my whole life changed
When I met a girl on a subway train

Nice lyrics. In a way they remind me of Bus Stop, by The Hollies: https://youtu.be/oSprHUjAFK8?si=XrTZQTkkiD_ZNG3p
Congratulations, Mark. I loved the music and the innocence of the lyrics. It took me back to the early sixties.
