I didn't understand the recording lingo, but I'm happy your long years of work are producing results. Gettin' it out there: I feel the same way about my writing. You too, no? The cool thing about the advancement of tech and the internet is the control it gives authors, musicians, and other artists over their work. We can do it our way, for better or worse, and get it out there.
Yes. You can do things now that were impossible or prohibitively expensive just a few years ago. Of course, you have to build your following yourself. But it is worth it. I would have never gotten a record deal or a publishing contract. Now I don't need one.
Back in the early 90s I had a bedroom of our small house dedicated to a four track studio. I went wild, really enjoyed it, and spent endless hours recording. And then, the next gizmo I purchased for the studio was a Mac, I was going digital! Woo hoo!
First: Sittin' in The Shade is a total mood. Second: I would love to produce my own songs but can't sing nor play any instrument. But if I could... I'd put a fully produced version of every silly song I've made up for my dog on an album.
This is excellent, Mark! I really enjoy listening to your music. I like your singing voice. After many years of not releasing any music, my brother is very close to finally sending some out into the world. I’ve been cheering him on for a while and I’m proud of him for taking a leap!
Thanks, Justin. In the last couple of years, it has become affordable and easy to get on the music services thanks to companies like Distro Kid. For $40 per year you can get your music on all the music services. You just have to upload a wav file and a cover image. They handle the rest.
Thanks, Coleen. I grew up in Michigan, and we didn't have air conditioning. So on hot summer days, I would sit in the front yard under the tree—in the shade. Usually playing my transistor radio listening to CKLW broadcasting from Ontario, Canada. That 1970s music was so good!
Great job, Mark! I've been fumbling with Logic Pro all day, pencilling out clicks and pops manually from my current chapter of War and Peace recording (18 minutes) took all day, and that's only one track. I feel like Izotope RX 10 plugin doesn't help at all, so I am using the pencil tool a lot... 😂
Great sound, groovy song. You should record more singing! Esp. if you're having fun!
Thanks, Alex. Clicks and pops are definitely annoying. And software tools to eliminate them are very hit or miss. I know that pencil tool well. Many years ago I used to edit sermon audio for broadcast, cutting out lip smacks, coughs, sniffs, long pauses, "umms", repeated words, etc. It was tedious work. I don't miss it. 🤣
Now I use mainly use the pencil tool to adjust levels and fades. On a vocal, it is usually one word at a time.
I am gald you liked the song. I plan to record a lot more songs. I have been writing them since the late 70s, so I have a few. 🤣
Thank you. I have gotten used to the tone of my voice, but that is not the same as liking it. 🤣
Actually, it has more to do with my struggle with pitch and my vocal range (low baritone/bass) that frustrates me. Most male sung songs are written for tenors and I can't hit those high notes. So I have to transpose almost everything down.

No, I have not heard of him. I envy poeple who were born with pleasant voices. And I can tell people who have learned that spoken "broadcast voice." But singing is hard! For me anyway. 🤣
I liked it Mark. I kind of get a Tom Petty vibe from it.
Thanks, Pennie. That is good company.

And I then I bought this thing called a modem.
Uh oh.....!
That internet is a real time waster.

Thank you, Jane. That is something to aspire to. 🐶🤓
You can always write lyrics. Then you just need to find your Elton John.
I'm listening to Sittin' In The Shade while having my breakfast and coffee. Thank you.

I’m getting deja vu.

I highly recommend it. That and sittin' in the shade whenever possible. 🤣
Thanks, Bill.

Sounds like my childhood in New York.
Shade is good almost everywhere. 😉
I like your sitting in the shade song🌳it’s what I would do on a hot sunny 😎 day.

Oh my… yes the uhhms! Reminds me of my Spherean podcast edit from last year… 😂
Looking forward to hearing more!!
It’s a fun listen...seriously. I’ll always appreciate originals “uploaded” to Substack, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Bjorn. I appreciate it!
Is it interesting that so many of us are put off by the sound of our own voice? I surely am. 🤔
The opportunity to listen to you sing is an unexpected gift. Thank you Mark! Your voice sounds great to my ears!
I continue to marvel at your wide range of creativity! 🤯

But I suppose we are our own worse critics.
I think we often are.
Are you familiar with Charlie Berens?

This is a kind of music I enjoy. Thanks Mark.
Thank you, Lana! I will post Seven Days Behind Me when it is done. 🤓
