Hi Mark I’m very sorry if this is verging on the pedantic... on a ship of that size (brigs n barques) the galley would be near the main mast - amidships towards the bow - as the stern would be captains and officers quarters. SORRY !! 😶‍🌫️

No problem. I appreciate the info, Linnhe. 🤓 My (limited) research said the galley would be below deck near the center or rear of the ship. For smoother sailing. I simply chose the rear (stern.) The Captains quarters were usually under the poop deck at the stern. Placing the galley under that. At least on this ship. 🤣

I am not too concerned with total historical accuracy. This is imaginative fiction, not strict historical fiction. I also play with the historical timeline when it suits the story. More Hollywood movie than history textbook. 🤓

Perhaps I will change it to:

Andelbert and I went below deck and made our way to the galley.

I’m sorry, I’m just a rigging geek! ✌️

No problem at all. I appreciate it. I want your comments! Another reader was in the navy and he points out my nautical ignorance occasionally. 😂

"Heaven’s light!" You are making me hungry, Mark. I am heading to the kitchen for a sandwich. The bread will not be nearly as fine as Andelbert's, more's the pity. Cute story.
