New to Space Traveler Fargone? Start at the beginning
After dinner, we all sat on the porch. Becky had a couple of rockers that she and Em sat in. Flow transformed into a rocker, much to Becky’s delight. I thought about sitting on Flow for a second but considered that a little weird and sat on the woodpile.
“It’s a shame you don’t have recording technology and a PA system. You could record some opera and play it all day to keep the walkers away,” I said.
“What is all that?” Becky asked.
I showed her my com and played the classic song Kung Fu Fighting.
“This song was recorded way back in the 20th century on Earth. A PA system is a way to play it very loud so everyone in the area can hear it.”
“But then I would have to listen to it all day,” Becky said.
I laughed. “You have a point.”
“Becky, I think I have a simple answer to your problem. Learn to sing. I can show the scales to practice and how to do vibrato, but you really need to hire a voice teacher and keep practicing. Maybe the town can recruit one, and everyone in Split River can learn to sing opera.”
“That is a practical solution,” Flow said.
Becky thought about it for a moment. “Well, I only ever sang in church. I suppose it is worth consideration. It might be cheaper than bullets.”
“No doubt,” I said.
The following morning we said our goodbyes to Becky and Sheriff Hanley and returned to Rustbucket.
“Another planet in the books,” I said. “It will make a great splog.”
“I found the experience interesting,” Flow said.
“I got some good footage for the video posts,” Em added.
“All right, then, let’s find our next adventure,” I said.
I took us up into space and asked Em if she would like to do the honors. She chose a sector, and we were on our way.
