Cheers Mark, I've always wanted to know what eggnog was - might be brave enough to try it now!

Great piece, Mark. You brought a few memories to mind.

I loved eggnog when I was a kid, before I learned about the pirates in my ancestry. Then I learned about nutmeg which was the real draw. And then I learned about adding rum. But then it occurred to me that would be a waste of rum. Why not just drink the rum? And so on.

Merry Christmas!

I absolutely adore eggnog, And you’re right, it does taste like custard. In fact, my local grocery store sells holiday custard, which is just eggnog without the nutmeg. And that realization threw me because I don’t like nutmeg but I still like eggnog.

One of the saddest things this year was finding out that Starbucks wasn’t going to be selling eggnog lattes. Just about broke my heart because I really looked forward to it. And while eggnog and coffee is OK, it’s not the same.

I loved eggnog as a kid. To the point of learning how to make it myself. I discovered people print books with food instructions for making things like eggnog! How cool! I learned that electric beaters are much easier than hand whisks, and blenders are even easier. I learned that the fanciest eggnog involves separating eggs. I learned that separating eggs is hard. I learned that eggnog made by just dumping eggs in the blender still tastes great.

I learned a lot, thanks to eggnog.
