My kind aunt bought me one of those in bright yellow🟡, for Christmas. I was overwhelmed, it looked so cool! I think our station was KDKA , Pittsburgh-50,000 watts!

Amen! I used to listen to late night AM all the way from Little Rock, AK. Don't remember the call letters.

Our local station was KDWB (channel 63!)

Wonderful, golden age of music.

Cute, cute, CUTE! I remember I had a little two-tone turquoise and white transistor radio when I was 15 and thought I was SO HOT taking it to the beach! I loved the song list. I can hum a few bars of sixty-one of those songs! What does that make me? Old as dirt. I loved this post.

I remember listening to the Top 40 with Casey Kasem in my youth. All the heartfelt, tear-jerking letters people wrote about songs.

This was a favorite in my youth:

Oh! How fun to listen!

I remember nearly every song on that chart. This story brings back so many memories for me, Mark, including the first transistor radio I was given for Christmas when I was very young. Back then we listened to 77 WABC New York. Thanks for the memories, brother!

Hi Mark. Great story. I also remember listening to the radio all the time in the late 60s and in the 70s. Great music. I truly miss it. I grew up in NY but don’t remember the radio station.

By the way, nowadays my sister lives in Ypsilanti.

CKLW was a powerhouse - we got it in upstate NY in my first couple of college years (72-74). I was into FM AOR, but kept my hand in top-40 pop as well. The first half of the 70s was a terrific time musically. Thanks for the post, and the chart!

A wonderful reminiscence. It was much easier to find good music on the radio then.
