Nowhere (There's A Tree For Us)
A song parody of Somewhere (West Side Story) by Leonard Bernstein
My wife and middle daughter wanted to go see the remake of West Side Story. They asked me if I wanted to go. I was not a huge fan of the 1960s movie, but I liked the songs. And I like popcorn. So I said, sure.
On the way home, somehow, the conversation turned to Christmas trees, and I started singing, “There’s a tree for us. Somewhere, a tree for us.” My daughter laughed.
So I figured I might as well finish the song parody. Here it is.
Play the video at the end of the parody and sing along!
When you can’t find that perfect Christmas tree…
There’s a tree for us
Somewhere a tree for us
Propped up high in the open air
Waits for us
Nowhere
There’s a tree for us
Someday at home with us
Then together we’ll place it there
Christmas fern, looking fair
Someday, I swear
We’ll find a new way of trimming
Forget that it’s only Thanksgiving
Despair
There’s a tree for us
A true showcase for us
Hold my hand ’cause we’re halfway there
A tree stand and I’ll put it there
Somehow
Someday
Somewhere
Sung by 90-year old Rita Moreno.
I don't know what happened. I've always put the tree up. But this year, it remains safe in the garage. So, call me lazy.
But your parody hit home. The perfect song for my Christmas ennui.
Great stuff, Mark.
This may be your best yet! You must be an amazing father!
