Looking back,
I wish I hadn’t wasted so much time sittin’ on the dock of the bay.
Sure, it’s fun to watch the tide roll away.
But it comes back every time.
Well, at least I learned how to whistle.
In honor of the great Otis Redding.
Otis Redding started writing the lyrics for (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay while he was staying on a rented houseboat in Sausalito, California, in 1967. He finished the song with the help of Steve Cropper, who plays the iconic guitar parts on the record. They recorded it just three days before Redding’s tragic death in a plane crash on December 10, 1967. It was released in 1968 and reached number one on the Billboard charts—the first-ever posthumous #1 single in the US.
Happy Monday. Thanks for reading and responding. You make it fun.
Mark
