Amazing Story Ideas
Coming up with ideas is the hardest part of writing for me. Once I have an idea, the writing is relatively easy. But sometimes, story ideas elude me.
Lately, though, I have had an explosion of amazing story ideas. So, I am going to share the wealth with my writer friends. [Many of my readers are also writers. Which is cool.]
Each of these ideas could easily be a short story or even a novel. But it is up to you to flesh them out.
Here we go:
Write a story about a kangaroo who can’t make it anywhere, so he moves to Manhattan.
Write a story about the guy who has to count the popcorn kernels in each popcorn jar to make sure there are exactly 2000. But he is easily distracted.
Write a story about a woman who can hold her breath for 8457 days. But after 23 years, she decides holding her breath for that long is a stupid idea.
Write a story about a professional hockey player who becomes a tree bark repairman.
Write a story about a spaghetti noodle who goes to a steam bath.
Write a story about a professional pencil sharpener who ditches it all to become an eraser salesman.
Write a story about a guy who invents super hats.
Write a story about a tonsillectomy gone wrong where the patient can suddenly sing but hates music.
Write a story about an armadillo gang who tries to rob an ice cream store but can’t see over the counter.
Write a story about an empty paper bag that has no life.
Write a story about the longest train on Earth that runs into itself.
Write a story about a pizza with an exceptionally high IQ.
Write a story about a summer love affair on a planet made of wax.
Write a story about a squirrel in Mexico who speaks French.
Write a story about a dust bunny whose dream is to live in a clean room.
Write a story about a robot who loves to do the Hammer dance.
That should get you started. You’re welcome.

A Legend Is Born
Terence Gridlock wasn’t like the other graffiti artists. He had a unique style that eventually became known as Gridlock in his honor. Terence was extremely good at what he did. The cops never caught him. In fact, most people were totally unaware of his work.
Until one night, a world-famous graffiti artist, Ragtag, visited Terence’s hometown. Ragtag went out to do some art and caught Terence in the act. He was so impressed he spread the word. Soon, Terence became legendary among other graffiti artists.
It is estimated that Terence had tagged over 100 parking lots in his time. But his crowning achievement was a 12-story new-construction parking garage.
When lead painter Bruce Rossi arrived with his paint crew to paint the new garage, the lines and lettering on the entire parking lot were already done.
Rossi said, “You gotta be kidding’ me. Alright, boys, that’s a wrap. Early lunch today.”
Terence wandered up to Rossi nonchalantly and said, “That’s a pretty good paint job.”
“Best I ever seen. But we didn’t do it. It was done when we arrived. They must have hired another crew.”
“I did it.”
“Get outta here.”
“Notice how I simulated the overlap of paint lines and the use of lettering stencils? I did it all freehand.”
“Impossible.”
“Watch.”
Terence got out his can of white spray paint and finished off the last line of a parking space.
Rossi shook his head and said, “You want a job?”
Ten years later, Terence became the first man to paint an entire Super Bowl field freehand.
Today, Terence has fame and fortune. But he still likes to cruise the town and do touch-ups. He says it keeps him grounded.
