Dan Magnate is the head of Big Time Television Studios. He heard some songs I wrote and hired me to write television theme songs. Everything was going great until my latest assignment. I was struggling. Eventually, I recorded what I had and submitted it.
I received a call saying that Magnate wanted to see me. So I drove down to the studios.
I walked into Dan’s office.
“What is this, Mark? Seriously?”
Dan reads the lyrics out loud.
He’d rather sleep than play
He won’t listen when you talk
Don’t bother with a collar
He ain’t going for a walk
He doesn’t chase cats
He never leaves the yard
He won’t catch that frisbee
He finds it way too hard
He rarely moves a muscle
His eyes are kind of droopy
He has no imagination
You won’t confuse this dog with Snoopy
He’s the worst watchdog ever
He simply will not bark
He won’t rescue you from a well
You might as well get an aardvark
He’s Joey!
Dan stared at me in disbelief.
“Hey, you try to write a theme song for Joey, the Lethargic Dog. What a stupid show. Whose idea was that?”
“Mine.”
Thanks for reading and responding. You make it fun.
Mark
Henrietta, I’m quite certain, was sent by the Universe to show me how an enthusiastic, energetic dog lives.
This morning she put on a show for the drivers passing by — rolling exuberantly in freshly mowed grass.
I'm glad you showed some doggedness on your assignment.
