I have finished mixing and mastering my song Seven Days Behind Me. Mixing (and mastering) is an art in itself. It requires using audio tools like DAWs, compressors, reverb, EQ, panning, and levels to make the separate tracks of a song sound cohesive, interesting, and listenable—and, hopefully, what the artist envisioned. It is the final bit of magic in the songwriting process.
Mixing has a long learning curve and requires lots of trial and error for someone like me who is not an audio engineer. I am still learning, but I think this is my best mix so far.
Here is the song:

Now, I need to choose a cover for the single. I typically do two or three covers and then decide which one best fits the music—or looks the best.
It is usually hard to find a photo that relates to the music. Many of the stock photos under a search for “lonely” are people with their heads down or staring off into the horizon. I didn’t want to be that dramatic and turn people off. I thought a “lonely” road would be a better fit since the song is about being away from home.
I would love to get your opinion. So here are the three choices.
Cover Option 1
The song is about missing the one you love, so the bleakness of the image seems appropriate.
Cover Option 2
This image captures the feeling of being on the road endlessly. It is also a cool photo.
Cover Option 3
I don’t know what to think about this one.
Alright, let me know what you think.
Thanks.
Mark
I like the song and image #1. I offer no justification other than I’m usually right.
I like Seven Days Behind Me!
I can't imagine how time-consuming and complicated it is to mix a song.
I like image number 2, the view from above because it's the most intriguing.
